Variable Speed Wind Turbine Modeling Using ATPDraw

This paper presents a variable speed wind
turbine model with frequency converters that contributes to
the studies of transient analysis and dynamic operation. The
model is implemented in ATPDraw program which is widely
used by power system engineers to study the electromagnetic
transient problems. The variable speed wind turbine model
includes: the control system of the wind turbine and of the
frequency converters, as well as the wind acting on the wind
rotor, the mechanical conversion and transmission system
and the grid connection with the distribution utility.
